Sciatica Is Not a Life Sentence — What Massage Can Actually Do

Sciatica is one of the most common complaints Santosh sees at Healing Hands. Clients come in after weeks or months of sharp pain running down one leg. Most have already tried painkillers. Some have been told they might need surgery. Nearly all of them are frustrated.

What most people do not understand about sciatica is that the pain is a symptom, not the problem. The sciatic nerve is being compressed or irritated — usually by tight muscles in the lower back, hip, or glute area. The piriformis muscle, which sits deep in the buttock right over the sciatic nerve, is one of the most common culprits.

This is where a skilled massage therapist can make a real difference. Santosh can locate exactly which muscles are pressing on the nerve. Through targeted deep tissue and remedial work, he releases the tension around the nerve pathway. The pain reduces — sometimes dramatically — within one or two sessions.

This does not mean massage replaces medical treatment for every case. Severe disc herniation or structural problems need a doctor. Santosh is the first to say that. But for the majority of sciatica cases — where the cause is muscular — the solution is not surgery or a lifetime of painkillers. It is a therapist who understands anatomy well enough to find the real source and release it.

If you have been living with sciatic pain and nothing has worked, it might be because nobody has looked at the muscles yet.
